Before going to Egypt, we do not have to prepare ourselves in any way in terms of medicine, vaccinate or buy tons of ointments and tablets. Currently, the country is safe for health, there is no epidemic in it and we can go to it for a dream vacation without worrying about our physical condition.
The most common African disease in tropical regions, malaria, it has been absent in Egypt for many years, and the risk of contracting it is really very low, and only in the El Faiyum area, in addition, only from June to October. if we want, so we can protect ourselves against it, but there is no such obligation and is generally not recommended.
To guard against various types of other threats, we should take care of hygiene as much as possible. It is obligatory to drink only boiled water or originally unopened from a bottle (tap water is absolutely not drinkable!), washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly, and avoiding drinking beverages with ice cubes or fresh fruit juice. Diseases, which most often happen to European tourists, it's a common cold (so it is good to have antipyretic drugs, etc.) and food poisoning.
The people of Europe are not very immune to the Egyptian flora, Therefore, in order to avoid stomach sensations, it is best to drink a small amount of alcohol prophylactically after each meal, is it fault, or ordinary Polish vodka, and in the event that we are already sick, go to the pharmacy as soon as possible. Egyptian medicines can cope with local ailments much better than our Polish specifics, but it is worth taking with you just in case, e.g.. Smecte or Laremiden, although they should only be used as a last resort, when for some reason we were unable to reach the pharmacy and buy the necessary medicines. In addition, when going to Egypt, it is worth stocking up on such necessary things, like plasters and dressings, cream with a UV filter, wound disinfectants and insect repellants (both for repelling insects and for lubricating bites) as well as refreshing wipes, bringing incredible relief during hot weather.
You also need to remember about this, that due to the possibility of contracting bilharzia (exotic hematuria) you must not bathe in any standing or slowly flowing water, like. lake or canal. You can only bathe and wash in the sea or in chlorinated water, what is e.g.. in the pools.
Better while in Egypt, so that we do not get sick, also for this reason, that foreign insurance policies do not apply there. Fortunately, the medical service in this country is quite high, and is far from the traditional methods of treating the old priests and healers. However, you have to pay for everything in cash, but the prices aren't overwhelming – the cost of a medical visit is approx. 20-40 US dollars, a day in the hospital is a slightly higher cost, because it is from 100 do 300 dollars.
As already mentioned, people entering Egypt do not need to have any special vaccinations, if they are not coming from the country, in which there is an epidemic right now. However, the validity of the polio and tetanus vaccinations should be checked. Vaccinations against typhus and hepatitis A and B are commonly recommended. Rabies is a serious problem throughout Egypt, so do not touch any wandering animals.
