Giza

Giza is the third largest city in Egypt, included in the Cairo agglomeration.

Is situated 20 km from the state capital, on the left bank of the Nile, and it is known mainly for its monumental pyramids. They are in it 3 the largest Egyptian pyramids, pyramid of Danger, Chefrena and Mykerinosa, but they are approx. 8 km.

The Pyramid of Terror, considered one of the wonders of the world, measures up to 147 m. heights, and at the pyramid of Chephren there is a mysterious Sphinx and the lower temple, Inside, a dark diorite statue of the pharaoh sitting on the throne was found. The Mykerinos Pyramid is characterized by the most original interior, where you can see many wonderful and unusual sculptures. On some of them you can see the ruler with the goddess Hathor embracing the solar disk, on the others Mykerinos and his wife. Here you can see a break with the Egyptian canon, for Pharaoh and his consort are of equal height, in addition, the queen embraces her husband with her right hand, thus showing the familiarity of relations between them.

Apart from the three main pyramids, in Giza there are also smaller ones for queens and dignitaries. They lie around the largest three, and they are accompanied by underground rooms for barges, formerly used by kings to travel on the Nile, and after their death, the bodies of the rulers were transported on them to a place of eternal rest. Special ramps led towards the river from the entrances to the tombs, where various processions could take place. They ended with temples, midwives on the border of farmland, which served as a harbor for barges.

W 1979 the building complex in Giza has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
